Our French Brother is Leaving …………..Again
In spite of the minority win by the Parti Quebecois in Quebec last night, I do not believe for one minute that Quebec will ever leave Canada. Simply put. Canada is justtoo good a deal for everyone. Still, the election last night did make me think about how we are like a nation of ten brothers.
Brother #1 is Alberta; brash, bold and hard working, but hey, we also won the lottery. Lucky guys.
Brother#2 – Our West Coast brother. He is so cool that he only uses his initials B.C. B.C. likes to fish and sail, he wears sandals with thick grey socks and drives a VW van. One cool guy, he loves the outdoors especially when he is tending his pot field.
Brother Ontario – he had it all, great job, leadership role in the country, top of the mark and when he spoke, the whole family used to listen. But, he lost his job, ran up a lot of really stupid debts and then still tried to throw his weight around. He’ll come back, but he needs to realize he is not the kingpin anymore.
Brother Saskatchewan loves the land. He likes to work in the sun, grow food and take long winter holidays in his big motorhome. Of course, he does like the family and if the food thing fails one year or the sun don’t shine, he really likes the the rest of the family to pitch in. Of course he won a bit of a “potash” lottery last year, so he’s feeling pretty good.
Four of the boys live together. They call themselves the Maritime Boys. They also like to fish, but they try to make a living at it and it has not gone so well for them. One of the boys, Newfie, doesn’t live with the others and he is working hard, but he still likes to fish and he likes a lot of ice in his drinks.
Brother Manitoba is just coasting along. Doesn’t say too much; maintains a low profile and tries to stay out of trouble with the law. Not great but a pretty good guy.
…….and then there is Brother Quebec. Alwats upset with the family; always asking for another loan and always living slightly higher than he can afford. Well, what can I say, Brother Quebec is talking about leaving……….again.

very creative George – if they try it again I don’t think we’ll all be marching down East to beg them to stay. Think what we could do with the money we’d save? Probably wouldn’t need that extra tax gizmo to rebuild our infrastructure!

Great blog, George. Can’t help but wonder: if Sound like parents “Ottama and Ottapa” have failed to instill many “let’s-get-along” values in that unwieldy bunch of boys. Surely they wouldn’t have as many problems if they’d had a few daughters.

This is brilliant. Says it all. Love it! Made my day when I read it in the Globe & Mail this morning.

They printed it in the “Letters” section of the Globe and Mail today, but they identified me as being from Toronto.
